The Voltaic Messenger™ features 3 rugged solar panels that turn it into a mobile power generator designed to charge: cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, GPSs, & MP3 players. The solar panels are waterproof, scratch resistant and efficient, supplying up to 4 watts of power to an internal battery pack - translating into quick charge times for electronics. The rigid panels are positioned on the bag to articulate to the wearer's movement. Voltaic extensively tested and chose these panels because they will withstand the rigors of everyday use (vs. fragile, flexible panels found in other solar bags).
Unlike cheap competitors, all Voltaic solar packs include a solar powered Li Ion battery pack to store surplus energy providing a constant charge for electronics - even when the sun goes down (similar technology to solar house systems). The battery's voltage converter (5, 6, 7.2 volts) allows you to charge from a wall socket or car & also has a handy LED torch that you can filp on for emergency lighting.
