I think these bottles are okay. I have one for each of my kids. But the flip-cap lid thing broke off each bottle within hours of giving them to the kids. The previous lid design was much better. I also have a bit of a trust issue with Sigg now due to the BPA issue. But since our grocery store had a free exchange we gave them another try. All in all, I like Kleen Kanteen better. I am not sure why there needs to be any lining inside a stainless bottle, seems only to add maintenance. ... more

I used to be a fan of SIGG, until they deceived the public about the safety of the old linings. I've sent in all my old bottles, including this one, and paid S/H to mail them in. Now I've been waiting 2 months for a response and to receive my replacement bottles. I've tried contacting SIGG a few times by phone and email, and they have not bothered to respond. We're an active family of 4 and can't go without water bottles, so I've had to spend more money on buying a few bottles of other brands while we wait for the SIGG bottles. Customer service is terrible, SIGG acted in a deceptive manner, and I will never buy their products again. ... more

I purchased the "Little Dog" bottle for my daughter along with the "Enchanted Valleys" bottle for myself. After approx. 6 mos. use the inner liner of both bottles, where the top screws in, had begun to flake. It is most noticeable on my daughter's, perhapes due to the fact it gets the most use. I was led to believe that these rather expensive bottles were a safer alternative to plastic, but ingesting chips of liner material is not my idea of "safer." I followed the care instructions word for word so I do not believe that the flaking was cause by any fault of my own. I would reccomend against purchasing this product or at the very least closely monitoring the condition of your liner. ... more

Design & Functionality
SIGG’s are safe, reusable bottles that do not leach toxins into its contents. Reusable, lightweight & durable. These bottles can take a hit without compromising the interior lining. About 20% lighter weight than a comparable sized Lexan plastic bottle, SIGG’s are incredibly durable, virtually unbreakable. Just ask the guys at Backpacker magazine who recently tested the leading bottle brands. Test results showed SIGG as "The World’s Toughest Water Bottle".
Fashionable as they are functional, each year SIGG launches exciting new designs from artists around the world. Much like a fashion house, SIGG rotates and drops designs to keep things fresh. SIGG reusable bottles are beautifully designed - in fact, SIGG bottles are part of the permanent Design Collection at the NY Museum of Modern Art.
Materials
Designed and manufactured in Switzerland from a single piece of pure aluminum, each bottle is perfectly extruded for uniform, seamless construction. The brilliant exterior of a SIGG is created using a solvent-free, eco-friendly, powder-based coating which is baked on to create a vibrant finish.
SIGG reusable bottles have been thoroughly tested in the U.S. and Europe to ensure no leaching of any aluminum or liner contents. We only carry bottles with SIGG's EcoCare liner, which is independently tested to be 100% free of BPA, phthalates, BADGE, BFDGE, and NOGE. The proprietary EcoCare liner is a bake-on, polymer powder coating which is sprayed evenly onto the bottle interior and bonded to the aluminum shell at nearly 200 degrees Celsius to form a permanent, flexible barrier. Just 40 microns thick, this coating comprises only a few grams per bottle and in no way interferes with the ultimate recycling of your SIGG. The liner is taste-neutral and resistant to fruit acids and energy drinks, ensuring that your drinks taste like your drinks every time.
Questions about SIGG's old liner? Read our FAQ.
"While the polycarbonate #7 (aka Lexan) bottles leached a significant amount of BPA, the SIGG bottles – both new & used – showed no detectable BPA." -- Dr. Jonathan Chun PhD, Alliance Technology 2007
"According to the results of our evaluation, use of a SIGG bottle does not add to the beverage any particles or components which are dangerous to human health" -- Dr. Ulrich Nehring, Institute Nehring, 2007
Sustainability
Not only are SIGG bottles designed to be reusable, they are 100% recyclable at the end of their very long lives. Aluminum is one of the most environmentally friendly materials in the world because it is extremely easy to recycle, regaining nearly all of its properties and making it ideal for repurposing.
Single-use, disposable water bottles (PET plastic) create millions of tons of unnecessary waste each year. In fact, according to the Container Recycling Institute, less than 15% of plastic water bottles in the U.S. are actually recycled – most wind up in landfills where they can take up to 1000 years to biodegrade. Using SIGG bottles helps replace wasteful, use-and-toss single serving plastic and paper beverage containers, while saving you money in the process. Reusing durable SIGG bottles ultimately helps you consume less over time.
"More than 90% of the environmental impact of a plastic bottle takes place before the bottle hits the landfill... energy to manufacture, energy to transport, energy to refrigerate--and ultimately energy to recycle." – Dr. Allen Hershkowitz, NRDC
About SIGG
For 100+ years, SIGG has utilized Swiss precision and craftsmanship to produce high-quality reusable bottles. The history of SIGG Switzerland dates back to 1908 when metal processing specialist Ferdinand Sigg established an aluminum product factory in Biel, Switzerland. The SIGG bottle became a fixture in Swiss households; in fact, every member of the Swiss Army had a SIGG bottle issued as standard field gear. A USA subsidiary was launched in 2005, but SIGG operations still remain in the quaint village of Frauenfeld, Switzerland to this day.
SIGG is committed to preserving nature. A member of 1% for the Planet, SIGG USA donates 1% of all sales to helping preserve our environment. They choose FSC-certified papers for all their publications, and work with eco-printing plants to actively reduce CO2 emissions and participate in voluntary climate protection.
Care Instructions
Do not freeze your SIGG aluminum bottle – it will crack! Rinsing your SIGG thoroughly under the faucet with warm, soapy water at the end of every day and letting it air dry with the top off provides sufficient cleaning in most cases. When more thorough cleaning is required, you can use baking soda and vinegar. For tough jobs, pick up some SIGG cleaning tablets and a SIGG brush. Do not use a hard bristled brush to clean the interior of your SIGG bottle as this may damage the liner. We also recommend Skweet, the all-natural, non-toxic biodegradable bottle wash.
We offer lots of additional info on SIGG in our SIGG FAQs.

I love these bottles. However, the plastic cap always breaks within a couple of weeks which is a little annoying.

Great for just water, but if you use these for juice, over time mold and debris will collect inside the colar of the sport top opening. It is impossible to clean, even with bleach. Also, if juice is left in the bottle for more than a couple of days, the inside coating of the bottle will begin to deteriorate. I used these for 2-3 months before learning to look with a flashlight into the bottle to see what was happening inside and before I learned to truly disassemble the top to clean it.

We love this thermos. We usually only use it for water, which stays cold for a long time. It is light, easy to fill, and easy for our kids to open and close. A seemingly small design attribute is that you cannot close the outer cap if the spout is open - we purchased a Laken thermos that did not do this - so we would assume the spout was closed when the cap was closed, and water would spill everywhere. We went back to the Sigg thermos.

by Tara G - 03/2008
I ordered this cup for my 15-month old and I was nervous when I first ordered it because I couldn't tell what type of spout it had. I was expecting more of a "sippy-cup" style of spout, which is not what this cup has. However my daughter did very well after a couple of tries and now drinks from it like a pro! I do wish it was spill proof because she likes to dump it over and shake the liquid out. Other than that it's great and very cute.

by thea m - 03/2008
I love the exterior design on these bottles but that is about all I like. I am very dissatisfied with the over functional design and here's why: 1) The cap gets in the way when my daughter tries to drink - she needs to hold it out of the way. She has asked me to remove it which defeats it's purpose. 2) The beverages do not stay fresh for long like they do in stainless steel. 3) The sipping top/sport top gets a lot of air thru it when she tries to drink from it even when it is fully open. Frankly, I would like to return them in exchange a Kleen Kanteen but the "style" of those is not as "fun" for children.

i love that i don't have to worry about my kids being exposed to any toxins when using these bottles. they are a nuisance to clean, however. i wish i could toss them into the dishwasher. nevertheless, they're worth the extra effort and the kids love them.

by Ashlie S - 02/2008
Overall, I really like the sippy. One of the drawbacks is that the spout is small and it is hard to tell when it is full as you are pouring liquid in etc. My 2 year old learned how to open and close it very quickly which was nice. My only complaint is that it is very difficult to tell how much is in it etc.
