| I have not let this bottle out of my sight since I received it about 2 weeks ago. It has gone everywhere with me. It seals great so no water spills and one can really tell it is made to last a long time! I use it at home, the gym, the office and it fits in my cup holder in the car (27oz)! Huge perk!
The only thing that I can see, thus far, that is not good, is the paint. I bought the "forest" colored bottle and the bottom paint is almost all gone already revealing the steel color beneath. Gives it that "used" look, I guess, but I don't know how long it will still look new.
Other than the paint, this is a perfect bottle! I have gotten numerous comments on it and love explaining the benefits it has on the environment and the great things the website that I bought it from does. Good stuff! ... more |

Klean Kanteen - finally a reusable, lightweight stainless steel water bottle. Certain plastics containers tend to leach unwelcome compounds such as Bisphenol A during regular use, exposure to heat, and especially after cleaning. Design & functionality
Klean Kanteen is a reusable, risk-free stainless steel container that does not leach toxins into its contents. Reusable, lightweight & durable. The wide-mouth accommodates ice cubes and makes cleaning easy. Sports cap and size make this bottle ideal for sports and other activities.
Materials
Made from electropolished, non-leaching, high grade 304 L.N. (18/8) stainless steel. Klean Kanteen’s 304 L.N. stainless steel is grade blended specifically for food preparation, dairy, brewing, various medical uses and other applications where mineral migration is unacceptable. The steel is put through a electropolishing process which seals the surface and prevents minerals from migrating into the contents. These reusable, risk-free stainless steel containers do not impart taste and do not leach toxins into their contents. Plastics (polycarbonate) have been shown to leach carcinogens including BPA during regular use, exposure to heat and especially after cleaning. From manufacturing, to use and disposal, plastics pollute our health and environment.
Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy made from some of the basic elements found on earth: iron ore, chromium, silicon, nickel, carbon, nitrogen, and manganese. Properties of the final alloy are tailored by varying amounts of these elements. There are more than 57 stainless steels recognized as standard alloys on the market. Klean Kanteens are constructed from high quality sanitary grade 304 stainless steel which has a low nickel content. Stainless steel has excellent resistance to stain or rust due to its chromium content making it a material of choice among the food processing, dairy and brewery industries. Stainless steel is easy to clean, durable, inert and sanitary.
Sustainability
100% recyclable. Using Klean Kanteen bottles helps replace wasteful, use-and-toss single serving plastic beverage containers, while saving you money in the process. Reusing durable Klean Kanteen bottles ultimately helps you consume less over time. Furthermore, 304 (or 18/8) stainless steel is a sustainable material, having a long service life, usability in a number of applications and is environmentally friendly. Stainless steel needs less maintenance and its hygienic qualities means that we do not have to use harsh cleaners to get a clean surface. There is little or nothing to dump into the drain that could have an environmental impact.
Fact: over 50% of new stainless steel comes from old re-melted stainless steel scrap (SSINA)
About Klean Kanteen
Klean Kanteen, a family-owned company in Chico, CA, was the first to create a stainless steel beverage container to curb the use of the one-time use water bottle and in response to credible reports about chemicals in common plastic drinking and food containers. Since 2004, Klean Kanteen has been informing the public about the health and environmental hazards of eating and drinking from plastic containers at consumer and trade shows such as Green Festivals, Outdoor Retailer Market, Natural Products Expo West and East, Interbike Expo, Whole Children Whole Planet and many others.
Klean Kanteen visits their manufacturing facilities 4-5 times per year and perform audits every six months to ensure all of our products are produced with respect for the environment and fair labor standards, including: the ethical treatment of factory workers, child labor, wages/benefits, health and safety, etc. Additionally, they do regular lab testing on random shipments through a local lab in the U.S. to ensure their products are made per their specifications, are free of hazardous substances such as lead, and do not leach chromium, manganese, etc.
Care Instructions
Klean Kanteens are dishwasher safe (washing caps in the dishwasher is not recommended because H2O can squeeze itself into the cap) or easy to clean with a bottle brush and mild soap. We recommend an old fashioned cleaner: white vinegar and baking soda. Stainless steel does not rust. If your bottle appears to have rusted, it is a harmless residue left behind from the electro-polishing process. Electro charges remove fine particles from the stainless steel surface, remove impurities and seal it. Electrolytes left behind sometimes turn a rust color, but it's harmless.

I have always bought Sigg water bottles and love them.They can really take the abuse of my six year old. But, I decided to try a Klean kanteen. Never again. The blue paint is just flaking all off, and we have only had it 2 weeks. I have never put it in the dishwasher, and only use natural green cleaning products. I wash it the same way, with the same dish soap as my Sigg bottles..There is a world of difference between the two. Don't waste your money. Go with Sigg!

This is the second Kleen Kanteen I bought from Reusable Bags because I like the first one so well. The first one is plain stainless steel has the sport top and the second one is enameled in green and has the other type of top. The new top fits better in the lunch bag purchased with the bottle. Last year I purchased the neoprene cover for the bottle which works very well to insulate and keep the bottle from "sweating." The size is great for bringing to work or in the car on trips, and having two is very convenient for a day trip. The green is very pleasant to look at and having two colors makes it easy to know which bottle is which if they have two different drinks in them, or two people are traveling together. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the product and if you figure how much you save by not buying any plastic bottles, they pay for themselves in no time! I would definitely buy more of these for presents.

PEELING PAINT AFTER 2 WEEKS!
I bought 3 klean canteens blue for me, and green and black for my two sons for easy identification. I also purchased Built NY lunch totes with the bottle holders for the boys to take for school lunches. Both of their bottles (black and green)began to PEEL (not scratch or chip)alot at the bottom within 2 weeks of them carrying to school. The bottles were in the holders of the lunch totes except at lunch or when they were getting a drink and they have not been hard on the bottles at all.
My blue bottle is showing signs of beginning to peel on the bottom as well depite, almost always being in it's bottle cover except when being cleaned. Much as we love the bright colors, I am going to see about sending the bottles back for the plain unpainted ones because overall the bottles have been very good.
The water tastes good and I like the wide mouth for ice and for cleaning purposes. The wide mouth is somewhat hard to drink from and I tend to spill water down my front some. The boys have the sport caps and seem to like those although they use the regular caps when carrying to school and put the sport caps on to drink during lunch because I was worried about leaks in their back packs.
I would have given the bottles a five rating if not for the quick paint peeling The paint could probably now be completely peeled off just by pulling at a piece of the loose paint and i wonder how hazardous this is to our health and the environment?. If you don't want this to happen, I recommend buying the plain stainless bottles.

I love my new Klean Kanteen

I love my new Klean Kanteen. The water tastes clean and fresh, unlike yucky plastic bottles I've used. I do wish it was insulated to keep water cooler longer, but I just use one of those sleeve things around it and fill it up with lots of ice before heading out. Plus, it's orange -- my favorite color. Love my Klean Kanteen!

Quality material. Like the wide opening, it allows me to put ice cubes in easily and makes it easy to clean. Keeps water cold for quite awhile. Will definitely buy more Kleen Kanteen when I need more water bottles.

I LOVE my Klean Kanteens!

I LOVE my Klean Kanteens! We got a color for each family member so we can easily tell them apart. I fill mine with filtered water from the tap and keep it in the fridge until I need it. It seems to sweat a little less that way. I know I have already saved at least one case of water bottles from going into the landfill. That makes me feel GREAT!

I purchased the pink 27 oz bottle for my sister, the black 27 oz for my dad, and the stainless 32 oz for my mom. They all love their bottles! My dad has tried other brands similar to Klean Kanteen, but he favors the Klean Kanteen. My mom & sister like being able to take filtered water to work with them and not have to worry about drinking the nasty tap water.
