| These bags are very well-made, sturdy and strong. My hubby does the grocery shopping with them, and he is very satisfied with them. The only problem is he tends to overload them, because they are so capacious, and then they are almost too heavy to carry. If you remember to distribute the heavy items into several bags, you should have a pretty pleasant shopping experience. Design & Functionality
Made of heavy-duty 18 oz. hemp canvas, which is stronger and more durable than cotton, pound for pound. You can carry a ton with this high-volume bag. During our trips to the grocery store, we've cut down on 4-6 plastic shopping bags at a time by using this single tote.
The straps are a great length for carrying over your shoulder or by hand. They run the entire length of the bag for superior stability and strength. Includes a convenient/roomy outside pocket and a handy key clip on the inside.
Materials
Made from heavyweight 18 oz. hemp, similar to jean jacket material. Hemp fabric is 4x stronger than cotton fabric of the same weight. Unlike conventionally-grown cotton, hemp has no known insect enemies and a high resistance to disease, so there is no need to use harmful pesticides in its cultivation.
Hemp products outlast their competition by many years. Not only is hemp strong, it holds its shape, which means less stretching and more durability. Better yet, hemp doesn’t wear out- it wears in. The more you use your hemp products are used, the softer they get. Learn more about hemp.
Hemp fabric is very resistant to degradation from mold, bacteria, salt water, sunlight, abrasion and chemicals. At the end of this bag's life, the organic hemp fabric is 100% biodegradable, unlike synthetic fabrics or tanned leather. Hemp is a very tough, natural material that can take the abuses of normal life, lasting much longer than conventional fabrics.

This bag is phenomenal. The adage you get what you pay for has never been truer... I was apprehensive when buying this because the price is slightly prohibitive, but now that I've been using it regularly I can't complain. It is very sturdy, extremely well-made and the brown/black combo is a very nice look for men or women. (I know, it's about the environment and not style, but why not both?)
I definitely recommend this bag to anyone shopping for one or two people on a regular basis.

Absolutely the best carry-all/shopping bag I have ever used. Strong and big enough to carry liter bottles of soda with room left over for more. I'll be buying a couple more for carrying my computer and components around. Highly recommended!

Love this XL Heavy Duty Hemp bag. It is my second one. I bought two in the past, but gave one away as a gift. This bag is heavy duty and the handles are just right.
I use the bag for a variety of things including to carry my loot at the local farmer's market including heavy melons, to carry my goods at the health food store, to carry my lunch, to carry my law schol books (which are heavy), to even carry my laptop inside a protective case.
One of the main things I LOVE about this bag is the fact that it does not have a logo. There are some bags the local chain health food store carry that cost about the same price as this bag, but are not nearly as sturdy!
I intend to order more soon. Thanks for the great bag and the quality service.

Heavy Duty XL Hemp Tote, is a great size for my grocery shopping. The only improvement would be a zipper to keep things in place. Otherwise it is a wonderful product. I purchased bags last year and this year I found the need for more of the bags. Great Job but a closed bag would be so much better.

Very strong, handsome bags.

These bags are very well-made, sturdy and strong. My hubby does the grocery shopping with them, and he is very satisfied with them. The only problem is he tends to overload them, because they are so capacious, and then they are almost too heavy to carry. If you remember to distribute the heavy items into several bags, you should have a pretty pleasant shopping experience. Outstanding bag - a pleasure to use

[When I originally submitted this review, I attached it mistakenly to the regular-sized tote. I intended the review to apply to this XL version, and I am therefore reproducing it here.]
These are terrific bags -- attractive, sturdy, and exceptionally spacious. Numerous checkout attendants have remarked that it's the nicest bag they've seen. (I am actually buying one as a gift for our favorite checkout person.) Two possible issues to bear in mind: (1) Those who are short in stature may have difficulty holding the bag with their arms fully extended because it may scrape on the ground. (2) The bag is pretty heavy. Neither of these considerations is a concern for me, but both bother my wife, who prefers other, smaller bags.

This is the reusable bag to end all bags!!! I use it to schlep my things to and from class--several thick computer manuals, a laptop, my lunch, hard drives. The handle length is perfect because you can sling it over your shoulder or carry it at arm's length. It is perfect.

I purchased this bag, with several others, as a Christmas gift in 2007. Unfortunately, I loved the bag so much when it arrived that I couldn't bear to part with it! The bag is very handy for groceries. The ample size makes it easy to load a gallon of milk with other items, and the wide handle straps evenly distribute the weight.
The bag is used on a weekly basis for my job (hauling documents, handouts, dolls used for teaching parents how to correctly install car seats, etc.) and for personal use (taking clothing and shoes to the consignment store, grocery shopping, and at local stores -- I don't need a plastic bag, thank you).
This bag is worth every penny, and more!

Love the tote, right size, simple, elegant, no logo, fits all my stuff to and from work. The fabric is really nice and supple, which was a bit of a surprise as I expected the tote to be more "structured," be able to stand open on its own. This has not been a serious problem for me though. It does not grab onto pet hair the way some similar fabrics do. Have a white long hair cat that has slept on it a time or two without seriously "pussing" (as we like to call it) it. Strap handles could be just a touch longer as it does not fit well over the shoulder when wearing a heavy winter coat, but I am large.
All in all, a great product. Very happy with it.

Heavy Duty XL Hemp Tote
I purchased two Heavy Duty XL Hemp Totes and I am very pleased. These bags hold a huge amount of groceries. I was skeptical about the convenience of forgoing supermarket plastic bags, but after having utizized my shopping bags twice now I'm converted! They are extremely durable, attractive, and enviornmentally friendly. The supermarket cashiers were very accomodating about loading them up with groceries. Larger items like half gallon water and soda can 12-pack boxes I just throw in my car on their own. Everything else I shop for goes in the bags. I would highly recommend this product.

I LOVE these bags! I bought 2 of the heavy duty hemp totes a few months ago. The quality is great,they look great, and are roomy and sturdy enough to carry all of my groceries. I have received a ton of compliments on these bags, and even ordered another bag at the request of my husband for his shopping needs.

Love this bag. At the grocery store, it is for the canned goods and "heavy stuff". For the beach, it is for the "big stuff". Etc. It is an anything and everything bag that cleans very easily.
