Design & functionality
Many communities have banned the use of regular plastic bags for yard waste removal, because polyethylene-based plastic bags cannot be composted with the yard waste or burned. Until now the alternative has been paper bags. Studies show paper bags are difficult for consumers to use and store, have a limited fill capacity (usually 28 gallons), and do not hold up well in wet weather. BioBag Lawn & Leaf bags can be set at curbside for up to 12 days before the collected waste will begin to break the bag down. We strongly recommend that wet grass clippings be left on the lawn, where the clippings will quickly biodegrade and add nutrient value to your lawn. Placing wet grass clippings in either a paper bag or a BioBag can stimulate bag decomposition within three or four days.
Materials
BioBags are made from a bio-polymer called Mater-Bi™, the
first 100% biodegradable and compostable bio-polymer ever invented. Mater-Bi™ is made from cornstarch, vegetable oil & other renewable resources. It is completely biodegradable in different environments: in composting, in the soil & in fresh / salt water. 3rd party certifications include US, National & International certificates.

BioBag packaging represents the company’s commitment to producing as environmentally friendly as possible and is not only made from natural fibers and recycled material, it’s 100% biodegradable & compostable. Inks and dyes are also soy based.
Sustainability
BioBags are a smart alternative to polyethylene/polypropylene based plastic bags. They’re designed to help people reduce the usage of new and recycled polyethylene-based plastic. Regular usage will help rid plastic bags from our environment. BioBags are made primarily from cornstarch and are certified to be 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable. Regular plastic bags do not biodegrade – they
photodegrade whereby the elements break them down into smaller and toxic bits.
Some manufacturers are blending additives to polyethylene to produce bags marketed as “biodegradable” or “degradable”; these merely accelerate the photodegredation process. By rapidly breaking plastic into tiny bits – it gets rid of the eyesore but the plastic remains! Of course these do not meet the ASTM D6400-99 standard for biodegradable and compostable plastic. The claim of biodegradability offered by these products is misleading and should be avoided since we believe they represent the
worst possible alternative.

About BioBag
BioBag is the world’s largest selling brand of biodegradable and compostable bags made from the material, Mater-Bi. Widely used for the collection of food waste for composting, BioBags are also popular among consumers who seek to reduce the amount of polyethylene-based plastics in the environment. BioBags are GMO free, certified for use in organic agriculture and CEN certified for restricted use of metals in our vegetable-based inks and dyes. BioBag products meet the ASTM D6400-99 requirements, which is the gold standard for compostable plastic. BioBags are shelf stable, just like paper towels, yet biodegrade quickly when exposed to nature’s elements and micro-organisms, leaving no harmful residues behind.
Biobags are made in Norway.
