Bazura Mini Messenger Bags are made in the Philippines by a women's cooperative, utilizing used juice containers. These containers are purchased through a network of local school children. Indestructible and non-biodegradable by nature, foil juice packs clog landfills, fields and streets throughout the Philippines. Using clever designs that combine the material's strength & brilliant colors, the co-op helps keep the environment clean via this very cool method of recycling.

About Bazura Bags

Bazura Bags come from a women's co-op in the Philippines that set up a Livelihood Project assisted by the local village council. With almost no capital, the women found a very clever way to support themselves.

Every day, children from the local schools collect over 50,000 used drink containers, called doy packs, then sell them to the co-op. The bags are sanitized and the women sew them together into attractive, durable bags.

Unlike most third world factory workers toiling away in sweatshops, these women are entrepreneurs and shareholders. They work for themselves and have a positive impact on their community and, at the same time, they encourage environmentalism.

Tips
  • Got a stuck zipper? Rubbing both sides of the zipper with a bar of soap or wax helps! Or try our other zipper tips.

Fact

  • It's estimated that millions of juice containers get thrown in the trash everyday in the Philippines.

    by Johannah W - 02/2009

My 2 year old son uses this bag for lunch and snacks three times a week. It's a cute bag, but I wish it came in other colors than black. It's difficult to clean, although it does resist stains. We've been using the bag for six to eight months now, and I'm really disappointed in how it's holding up. The juice box portion is strong as ever, but the fabric "frame" is wearing thin, especially at the corners. For over $20, I expect a bag that will last for years. One final thought: while it is made from a material that would otherwise be trash and is made by a women's co-op, the carbon footprint is HUGE given the distance it travels to get to the US.

    by Tina W - 09/2008

I bought this item as a gift for a young friend of mine. She loved it. I thought it was a great idea. The only changes I might recommend is to make it a bit larger, it would be tough to fit school books in a bag this size, and give it a large front flap like a true messenger bag. Other than that, it's great! I love Basura,s products.

The basura bag is great looking, good for the eart

    by jennifer d - 08/2008

The basura bag is great looking, good for the earth, and provides lots of room for lunch and snacks for my Kindergartener. My only dissatisfaction with the bag is that it is not insulated at all. Therefore, ice packs don't keep food cold very long.

I just received this bag and I'm a little disappoi

    by rhonda h - 04/2008

I just received this bag and I'm a little disappointed. Messenger bags usually have a flap on the front but this bag is just a basic bag with a zip on the top. It's a decent enough bag but I wouldn't call it a messenger bag. A better strap would improve it a great deal too; the current strap is very cheap looking. On the bright side it is funky and almost entire wipe clean which is great since I purchased it for a 3 year old.

I love how functional this bag is

    by Noel B - 02/2008

I love how functional this bag is. I can sling it over me bandoleer style, leaving my hands free to a)get my toddler in/out of the car, and b)carry my other work bags into the office. If you have trouble keeping bags on your shoulders, like me, this is the perfect lunch holder.

    I love my bag!

    by Linda S - 01/2008

I love my bag! It's exactly what I pictured it as. There is even a divider in the middle. It's a great conversational piece too when I'm walking through a store, too. I use mine as a purse. All my friends and family love it and I think it's super cute.

This is the coolest little school bag for my 4 yea

    by Leah S - 10/2007

This is the coolest little school bag for my 4 year old. It's just big enough for a change of clothes for preschool and a few other supplies. He can carry it himself without fear of a herniated disc. And we love keeping all those juice boxes out of the landfills.

Love it. Handy. Just the right size and uber hip! Something I couldn't get in the area in which I live and it's always nice to have something no one else has. My daughter will absolutely love it.

I bought this for school lunch for my 5 year old

    by beth w - 09/2007

I bought this for school lunch for my 5 year old. It was pretty big, so I decided I would use it for day trips with the kids to bring our food instead. We have food allergies so we bring our own food everywhere. It is soooo cute. Everyone who sees it comments on it. It cleans pretty easily, and is sturdy.

We told my 4th grade daughter, when she chose this

    by eileen j - 09/2007

We told my 4th grade daughter, when she chose this for her lunch bag, that some kids would think it's cool and some would think it's weird. Right as we were, she (and many of her frends) thinks her bag is the coolest. It is the perfect size for toting lunch and snack. We love that this is keeping garbage out of landfills.
